What to Do If You Receive an Incorrect W-2

Did you receive an incorrect Form W-2 from a former employer? If so, the IRS advises you to first contact the employer to request a correction. If you haven’t received it by the end of February, contact the IRS to initiate a complaint (see link below). What happens next? The IRS will request a correction from the employer within 10 days. The IRS may also send you a Form 4852 (Substitute for Form W-2), with instructions. Be aware that filing a tax return with a substitute W-2 could delay any refund due. And if the employer later issues a corrected W-2 that differs from your Form 4852, you’ll need to amend your original return. For more: https://bit.ly/49ttaz5. Contact us with questions. © 2024
