New Jersey Establishes Sales Tax Holiday

The State of New Jersey recently implemented a Sales Tax Holiday from August 26, 2023 through September 4, 2023.

During this time, sellers should not charge sales tax on certain eligible items including retail sales of computers, school supplies, and sports or recreational equipment when sold to an individual purchaser for non-business use.

The following retail sales are exempt during the Sales Tax Holiday1:

  • Certain Computers (with sales price of less than $3,000)
  • School Art Supplies
  • School Computer Supplies (with sales price of less than $1,000)
  • School Instructional Materials
  • School Supplies
  • Sports or Recreational Equipment (sold to individual purchasers for non-business use)
