IRS Reminds Taxpayers to Be Vigilant This Tax Season

Cybercrooks want your personal and financial data. You need to prevent them from getting it. That’s the message sent by the IRS when it reminded taxpayers to be vigilant this tax season. To prevent identity theft, be skeptical of texts and e-mails purporting to be from the IRS. These are almost certainly fake, as are “urgent and threatening” phone messages. The IRS points out that criminals can fake caller ID numbers so that calls appear to come from an IRS office. Also watch out for unemployment benefit scams. If you receive notice about a claim you didn’t make, contact your state’s unemployment insurance agency. Read the IRS notice here. For questions, Contact the Cg Team. © 2022
