Offer in Compromise “Dirty Dozen” Tax Scheme

The IRS is cautioning taxpayers with outstanding tax bills to avoid a scam that claims they can resolve tax debt for pennies on the dollar. They’re called offer in compromise (OIC) “mills,” and are run by unscrupulous companies that lead taxpayers to believe they can “magically get rid of tax debt,” the IRS warns. In reality, some taxpayers end up paying the OIC mills “excessive fees, often thousands of dollars.” This tax-related scam, one of 12 on the IRS’s 2023 “Dirty Dozen” tax schemes list, is more prevalent after the filing season as taxpayers try to resolve their tax debts.  Contact us for information about the possibility of getting a legitimate OIC, or visit: https://bit.ly/3CpuwMc. © 2023
