What to Do if You Receive an Incorrect W-2

Many taxpayers are receiving their Forms W-2. But what if you receive an incorrect Form W-2 from a current or former employer? The IRS advises you first to request a correction from the employer. If you haven’t received it by the end of February, contact the IRS to initiate a complaint. What happens next? The IRS will seek a correction from the employer within 10 days. It may also send you a Form 4852 (Substitute for Form W-2). Filing with a substitute W-2 could delay your refund if you’re entitled to one. If the employer later issues a corrected W-2 that differs from your Form 4852, you’ll need to amend your original tax return. For more: https://bit.ly/49ttaz5Contact us with any questions. © 2025
