Impersonation Scams Targeting Older Taxpayers

The IRS has issued a warning about the rising threat of impersonation scams targeting older adults. In these scams, criminals pretend to be government officials with the goal of stealing sensitive personal information and money. They may pose as representatives from the IRS or other agencies and try to extract information through phone calls, emails or text messages. The IRS warning is part of a wider effort taking place leading up to World Elder Abuse Awareness Day (WEAAD) on June 15. WEAAD aims to foster a better understanding of the neglect and abuse faced by millions of older adults. For more details and tips on how to respond to suspicious messages: https://bit.ly/3Xrj66J .
