October 17 Extension Deadline

For taxpayers who’ve filed for an extension, highlight this date on your calendar: Monday, Oct. 17. That’s the new deadline to file your tax return with the IRS. Be aware that an extension of time to file will automatically process if taxpayers paid all or part of their taxes electronically by this year’s original due date: April 18. Although taxpayers can file up to six months later when they have an extension, taxes are still owed by the original due date. In addition, keep in mind that certain disaster victims, taxpayers serving in combat zones and those living abroad automatically have additional time to file.
