Attention consumers: “Use tax” is owed by New Jersey residents and businesses that buy products out of state, online, or by mail, and then bring the products to NJ or have them shipped here. You may have to pay use tax to NJ, even if the out-of-state seller claims your purchase is tax-free or collects sales tax for another jurisdiction. The NJ Div. of Taxation recently updated its online information about the tax. It explains why a business or individual would owe use tax, how to calculate the tax and how to remit it. Read about it here. © 2019
