New Overtime Pay Deduction Available for 2025–2028

As you’ve probably heard by now, the One Big Beautiful Bill Act introduced a deduction for qualified overtime compensation for 2025 through 2028. The deduction can be as much as $12,500 ($25,000 for married couples filing jointly). But an income-based phaseout and many other rules and limits apply. The IRS has provided information on the deduction in the form of eight FAQs. The FAQs cover topics such as what constitutes “qualified” overtime pay, who may be eligible to claim the deduction, calculating the deduction for 2025, where to find supplemental information on eligibility and other rules.
