Episode 78 – The Cg Business Advisor: Year in Review

This year on The Cg Business Advisor, we welcomed an incredible lineup of guests who shared transformative insights on marketing, operations, finance, and leadership. As we look back, four conversations stand out for the actionable wisdom they delivered. Here’s a snapshot of what we learned.

Larry Bailin: Optimizing for AI Discovery

Guest: Larry Bailin, Founder & CEO, Single Throw Marketing

Larry delivered a wake-up call: AI-driven search is no longer the future—it’s
happening now. Platforms like ChatGPT and Google Gemini are reshaping how
customers find vendors. Larry emphasized that businesses still relying on outdated
SEO tactics are invisible to AI. The companies that thrive will strategically position
their digital presence so AI tools can understand who they are, what they offer, and
why they’re worth recommending. His core message: marketing must be measured
by customer acquisition and ROI, and AI optimization is the newest evolution of that
mission.

Ross Stockdale: Podcasting, AI, and Resilience

Guest: Ross Stockdale, Fractional CMO & Host of The Thunderstock Show

Ross brought a unique perspective shaped by his background as a cage fighter
turned Fractional CMO. He shared how podcasting has become a powerful
networking tool—deeper than business cards, more authentic than traditional events.
Ross also discussed how AI is democratizing marketing, allowing small businesses
to accomplish in minutes what once took hundreds of hours. His most memorable
insight came from the fight game: after a loss, his coach told him, “No one cares
except you. Get over it. Tomorrow is another day.” That resilience mindset, he says,
is essential for entrepreneurship.

Angela Lapovsky: Mastering Change Management

Guest: Angela Lapovsky, Founder, ARL Elevate & Fractional COO

Angela’s core philosophy is simple yet powerful: “If you’re not changing, you’re going
backwards.” She shared her four-step formula for effective change: start with the end
in mind, set realistic but aspirational goals, conduct a “pre-mortem” to anticipate
obstacles, and build accountability into the process. Angela stressed that change
management isn’t about massive overhauls—it’s about aligning people, processes,
and outcomes to achieve defined goals. The most common mistake? Leaders
underestimate how much time, energy, and communication real change requires.

Jennifer Flynn: LIFO and Tax Strategy

Guest: Jennifer Flynn, VP of CPA Partnerships, Source Advisors

Jennifer shined a spotlight on an underutilized tax strategy: LIFO (Last-In, First-Out)
inventory accounting. With tariffs, inflation, and supply chain volatility driving up
costs, LIFO helps businesses reduce taxable income by recording the most recently
acquired—and most expensive—inventory as sold first. Jennifer shared compelling
case studies, including an aerospace firm that saved nearly $300K and an
electronics manufacturer that cut over $1M in taxes. As she put it, LIFO is “an oldie
but a goodie”—essentially an interest-free loan from the government.
